Starting with an introduction to Trail Running we will take you on a 12 month journey to become a confident trail and fell runner, learning navigation skills & hills skills in preparation to complete a 50k Ultra Marathon - The Yorkshire Trod, in October 2021.
1. Become confident running on multi terrain
2. Gain skills to be safe and prepared on remote hills, navigation, kit, how/what to eat.
3. Run for enjoyment, explore wild places, new routes and a love for being in the hills.
4. Complete your first Ultra Marathon
Introduction To Trail Running Weekend - October 16th - 18th 2020
Grassington, North Yorkshire
Take a break in the Yorkshire Dales where you can get a taste for some beautiful Trail Running. A no pressure atmosphere where you can meet like minded people. You will have a choice of distance between 10-25km, with the option on the day to return to the Hostel where you can relax for the afternoon, or continue with a run leader through some of the most scenic parts of the UK.
If you are already a runner but would like to get off the road and try out the trails, this is for you. Or maybe you already enjoy trail running but would like a guided run where you can meet new people in a relaxed environment.
Check in from 4pm, meet at 6.30pm when we will gather as a group and discuss the route for Saturday and Mel will answer any questions which you may have.
Inclusive Dinner - 7pm, relax and get to know each other, try not to drink too much....we have some running to do remember.
Light Breakfast 7.30-8.30am
After breakfast you will meet your other leaders who will be supporting the run.
9.30am We will head out on the Dales Way. An undulating footpath following the river to Burnsall & Appletreewick. At around 10k we will be met by a driver with refreshments. You will be able to recharge before setting off again for another 8km where we will be met again with refreshments at Burnsall. From here you have another 6km back to Grassington along the river path. Anyone who feels that the first 10k is enough, or at any refreshment stop, will have the option to be driven back to Grassington.

Inclusive Breakfast 7.30-8.30am
After breakfast we will gather and meet your run leader for a steady 'recovery run' A circular from the hostel. Route yet to be confirmed.
Inclusive Afternoon Tea/ Buffet Lunch at a local Cafe
You will need:
● 2 sets of running clothes.
● extra long sleeved layer, windproof
● waterproof top with taped seams
● bumbag/running backpack
● waterproof trousers
● suitable off road shoes
● drinks bottle

Fell & Trail Coaching Weekend February 12th - 14th 2021
A full weekend of running & coaching sessions led by Nicky Spinks, Record breaking Fell runner and UKA Coach on Saturday. You will learn how to ascent and descend hills more efficiently, and a session focusing on technical terrain. Nicky will give a talk about preparing for an Ultra. Sunday you will get a chance to practice your new skills on a guided run with the Due North Team. A talk from a coach/physio/nutritionist (topic to be confirmed)
Experts on hand to offer advice.
Guided fell/trail runs, optional guided night/head torch run, coaches on hand to give help and advice.
Accommodation: in the YHA kettlewell, breakfast, lunch and evening meals included.
You will need:
● Running clothes for 2 days (there may be 3-5 different sessions over the weekend)
● Waterproof Jacket with tapes seams
● Water proof trousers with taped seams
● Fell/trail running shoes
● An extra long sleeved layer (thermal preferred)
● A bumbag/running backpack
● Water bottle/bladder pack
● Head torch if taking part in the night run
● Casual clothing for free time (Pub?)
● 2 Nights accommodation in dorm room Fri & Sat
● Saturday - Breakfast, lunch & evening meal
● Sunday-Breakfast & Lunch

Due North Trail Half Marathon
You can choose from one of the three half marathons:
You can take part in more than 1 race at an extra cost.
Map Reading & Navigation
These days can be fitted in anywhere between March and October. You can pick dates to suit you so long as we have a minimum of 4 people the course can go ahead. You will have 2 seperate days. The day will be on the route of The Yorkshire Trod 50k so that you can recce the route.
You will need full kit, same as the Fell & Trail Coaching weekend, but warmer clothing as this will be a day of mainly walking, slow moving with lots of stopping and starting.
Please also bring a compass. We will have looked at these in the earlier weekend events so you will know what to buy.
Graduation - The Yorkshire Trod 50k
You will take part in the 50km Challenge in October 2021, Dates TBC but most likely 23rd October.
You will receive your Graduation Certificate on completing the Trod.

You will receive a 50k Training Plan after the Fell & Trail Running Weekend.
Monthly email/chat with Mel to support you on your training.
The total cost for the 12 month program is £550
This is a saving of £175 if you were to book each course separately.
There is a further £50 saving if you pay upfront before October 2021.
Option 1 - Pay £260 to confirm your place onto Stage 1, then the remaining £240 by October 1st 2020.
Option 2 - Pay £260 to confirm your place, then 10 monthly payments of £29 starting October 2020 - July 2021
