Yorkshire Trod
100K, 50K & 25K Challenge
Saturday 21 to Sunday 22 October 2023
The Yorkshire Trod is back for 2023
… and we’re introducing a NEW 25K option!

100km, 24 hour challenge event based in the Yorkshire Dales starting and finishing in the village of Grassington.
There will also be a 50km option, which will be open to walkers as well as runners with and 18 hour time limit.
This is a self-navigated, low-key event with no way markers and few marshals so map reading, navigation skills and experience on the fells is a requirement of entering this race and you are agreeing to this rule when entering.
The route takes you through Threshfield to Weets Top at Malham, along the shore of Malham Tarn before heading across the moor descending into Arncliffe. From Arncliffe (check point and food station) you will go through the villages of Litton, Buckden, Starbotton and Kettlewell (the 100 will climb Bucken Pike H-702m) before returning to Grassington where the 50km will finish.
For the 100 you will recharge at the food station in the institute then continue to Burnsall. The route heads towards Trollers Gill dropping down to Parceval Hall before the climb of Simons Seat.
Eventually you will cross near Barden Tower/Strid Wood climbing to Barden/Embsay moor for Cracoe War Memorial. You are now in sight of the finish, descending into Thorpe then making your way back to Grassington for a hot meal at Grassington institute.
Start 8am | Grassington Devonshire Institute, 48 Main Street, Grassington, BD23 5AA
Tracking & Checkpoints
Each participant will carry a tracker which we will monitor to ensure that all checkpoints are visited as most CP will be unmanned.
Water will be available roughly every 10-12km with the main feed stations roughly every 25k. The first food station is in Arncliffe Village hall, with a range of light snacks, pasta, cheese, bread, fruit and cakes. The second will be at 50k, serving a hot food option as well. Plus tea, Coffee and juices. The third food station for the 100k runners will be on Barden moor, serving hot drinks and snacks as at Arncliffe, then a hot meal at the finish in Grassington institute.

Updates and Rules for The Yorkshire Trod
Unless stated no road sections are permitted and we have given a little more info here.
The start of the route until Threshfield Moor will be partially marked so all runners/walkers will take the same route for the first 3km.
There are 2 small sections of road after Weets Top, depending on route choice. Either Hawthorns Lane or Smearbottoms Lane. You will obviously use the road until you reach the footpath, You must take an off road route as soon as one is available. So either join the Pennine Way to the West of Weets Top then make your route choice, or off Smearbottoms Lane , North, the path opposite Middle Laithe.
The section from Arncliffe to Litton you must use the public footpath along the river NOT the road.
Starbotton to Kettlewell must be off road, either footpath; Dales Way or the Paradise path on the other side of the road is fine.
A road section in Kettlewell is allowed, from entering the village until SD 976 706, where the dales way leaves the road and heads up High Gate Leys Lane.
Out of Grassington on the 100K route the road must not be used past these points SD 997 638 and SE 003 637, basically you need to join the Dales Way ASAP.
You may use the road between Barden Bridge and Cattle Grid Car Park CP14 but a head torch must be worn and turned on after dusk, and reflective clothing worn. This can simply be outdoor clothing, which already has reflective strips as part of the garment.
