Ultra Tour Yorkshire Dales (UTYD)
100K, 50K & 25K Challenge
Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 October 2025
The Yorkshire Trod is back for 2025
… but it is now the UTYD!
Recce Dates:
- 17 March:
- 15 mile recce from the start; Grassington to Arncliffe.
- 12 May
- 14 miles; Arncliffe to Kettlewell
These are aimed to not only show you the ‘advised’ and most popular route for the 100k, but to also look at route choice. There is help and advice to prepare you for an Ultra, the kit, food, what to expect on the event etc.
Most of the 50k is covered in recce legs 1 & 2, and the first 10k of the 25k is covered in recce leg 1, so all distances will benefit from the recce days as we aim to prepare you for the event as well as show you the route.
Recce days are free to anyone who has entered on to the UTYD before the date of the recce. £15 for anyone who has not already entered the UTYD.

New for 2025 we are opening up a Relay category. Relays will be teams of minimum 2, maximum 3 with change over legs at designated check points.
- Leg 1 – Grassington – Buckden 22 miles
- Leg 2 – Buckden – Burnsall 17 miles
- Leg 3 – Burnsall – Grassington 22 miles
Only these change over locations are allowed. If you have a 3 person team, the change overs are Buckden and Burnsall, if you have a 2 person team, you decide which runner has the longest leg. Which will be either Leg 1 to Leg 3 for runner 1 and Leg 3 to Finish runner 2 , or Leg 1 to Leg 2 Runner 1 and Leg 2 to Finish for runner 2.
Leg 1 runner must register in Grassington at the usual 100k registration times. Other relay runners of leg 2 and 3 will register at their change over location with the marshals and collect their tracker as their team runner arrives.
The route is the same route as the full 100k but mandatory checkpoints for the hand over. One tracker will be issued per team and the Tracker is the ‘Baton’. The tracker must be handed to your next runner, attached to the runners bag and checked by a marshal before the next leg is started.
Runners are responsible for logistics between locations. No transport is provided to get runners to the start of their leg or collected from the end of each leg. Buses run from Buckden to Grassington. You can find a timetable here https://www.dalesbus.org/skipgras.html and their is a National Park Car Park in Buckden.
Burnsall is limited on car parking so we suggest one car per team only in Burnsall.
Checkpoints are the same as the full 100k. All checkpoints must be visited by the relay runner and report their number to the marshals. Extra water and snacks will be available in Buckden and Burnsall for the finishers of leg 1 and 2 relay runners. All runners from each leg will be welcome at Grassington Devonshire Institute for a hot meal and drinks after their leg.
Relay Team Price £150
Kit List
- Leg 1 runners refer to the 50k Kit list on the 50k tab
- Leg 2 and Leg 3 Runners must carry the 100k kit due to daylight hours and the remote and high areas on leg 2 and 3.

Unless stated no road sections are permitted and we have given a little more info here.
The start of the route until Threshfield Moor is mandatory will be partially marked so all runners/walkers will take the same route for the first 3km.
There are 2 small sections of road after Weets Top, depending on route choice. Either Hawthorns Lane or Smearbottoms Lane. You will obviously use the road until you reach the footpath. You must take an off road route as soon as one is available. So either join the Pennine Way to the West of Weets Top then make your route choice, or head North on Smearbottoms Lane then take the footpath heading North opposite Middle Laith/Lee Gate.
The section from Arncliffe to Litton you must use the public footpath along the river NOT the road.
Starbotton to Kettlewell must be off road, either footpath; Dales Way or the Paradise path on the other side of the road is fine.
A road section in Kettlewell is allowed, from entering the village until SD 976 709, where the Dales Way leaves the road and heads up High Gate Leys Lane.
Out of Grassington on the 100K route the road must not be used past these points SD 998 638 and SE 003 637, basically you need to join the Dales Way ASAP.
You may use the road between Barden Bridge and Cattle Grid Car Park CP14 but a head torch must be worn and turned on after dusk, and reflective clothing worn. This can simply be outdoor clothing, which already has reflective strips as part of the garment.
Due to poor/unsafe weather conditions, route changes and restrictions may be enforced last minute. Notices of this will be announced at or before registration and in some cases, during the event. Participants must follow the latest instructions given by event staff, failure to do so will lead to disqualification and you may be asked to return to race HQ to hand in your tracker and retire immediately.
Due to the nature of this event and the time of year, if the event is cancelled due to unsafe weather conditions, refunds will be for just 80% of entry fee due to costs incurred. Please consider the insurance add on when entering on sientries. If the event can go ahead but with variations to the route, no refunds will be offered.
Age restrictions apply – see individual races.
Please note, no dogs are allowed.
100km, 24 hour challenge event based in the Yorkshire Dales starting and finishing in the village of Grassington.
There will also be a 50km option, which will be open to walkers as well as runners with an 18 hour time limit, and a 25k open to runners and walkers.
New for 2024 The Ultra Tour Yorkshire Dales will have a GPX for the 100k, 50k and 25k.
Although the GPX shows the most popular route, those who wish still have route choice between each Checkpoints so long as the Event Rules are followed in terms of out of bound areas. See Rules. The 25k is a fixed route and the gpx must be followed.
The route takes you through Threshfield to Weets Top at Malham, along the shore of Malham Tarn before heading across the moor descending into Arncliffe. From Arncliffe (checkpoint and food station) you will go through the villages of Litton, Buckden, Starbotton and Kettlewell (the 100k will climb Buckden Pike H-702m) before returning to Grassington.

The gpx is the most popular route taken by runners over the past 4 years, however, last minute decisions regarding the route may be made due to weather/access which is why participants must have the skills to navigate between the CPs if the gpx provided is not an option on the day of the event.
